Mission and Vision

  • PRI is an international, research-based, non-profit NGO that aims to enhance planetary resilience across generations and species through research, advisory, advocacy, and capacity building, with the following mission and vision:

Mission

PRI functions as a research institute, hink tank, advocacy and advisory center, at the intersection of social equity, ecosystem management, climate action, systemic risk and resilience, and disaster risk management. PRI seeks to advance planetary resilience through transdisciplinary research, evidence-based advocacy, and holistic advisory services.

We strive to be a catalyst for change, fostering resilience to systemic risks while preserving and restoring life-supporting planetary systems. We pursue transformative solutions for a just and resilient planet across all beings and generations. We operate with the language and ontology of complex systems. Our goal is to ensure the planet’s well-being is just and resilient for all.

Vision

We are non-conformist, undisciplinary, and progressive. We navigate the frontiers of science while acknowledging its limitations and inherent uncertainties.

We question authority and challenge deeply held beliefs — including social constructs, exploitive structures, and the science or mindset shaped by them. We remain committed to pursuing transformative solutions for a just and resilient planet across all beings and across generations.

We envision a world where human societies and natural ecosystems thrive in harmony within Earth’s biophysical limits, safeguarding multispecies and multigenerational social equity and justice; where complex system thinking prevails, interventions are just, inclusive, and truly resilient, ecological economics is embraced, and accountability is universal.

It’s not always easy, but a meaningful change never is.
We can still imagine, and we have a dream.

Core Strategic Aims

1) Resilience Enhancement
Increasing resilience (anticipate, prepare for, resist, respond to, cope with, recover from, and transform away) of social systems to sudden and slow onset hazards, climate change impact, and disasters

2) Ecological Footprint Reduction
Reducing the impact of human development on ecological systems and addressing ecological overshoot through evidence-based policy and practice.

3) Conservation & Restoration
Conservation and restoration of ecological systems and biodiversity to increase planetary carrying biocapacity for current and future generations.

4) Equity & Justice
Reducing inequality and promoting equity across social and planetary systems — ensuring resilience-building processes are inclusive and just.

5) Accountability & Learning to avoid desilience, systemic, and recursive risks
Preventing investment waste and maladaptation; systemic and recursive risks, flagging harmful projects before funding; systematizing lessons learned; and promoting universal accountability.
