Our problem-solving strategy rejects the normative “human convenience” model as the center of ecological equilibrium. We do not recognize the pursuit of infinite economic growth as a viable path. Instead, we develop solutions unconstrained by single disciplines, emphasizing a change in the status quo while remaining grounded in the reality that transformation is a tailored process.

Complex problems in planetary systems require more than single-dimensional interventions. We move beyond reductionist, linear “one-to-one” causal relationships. Unlike siloed frameworks, we remain committed to addressing “ecological overshoot” and “post-growth.” Solutions that do not acknowledge the impossibility of constant growth in a finite environment cannot address the root causes of our current crises.

Social impact is as critical as technical efficacy. We adhere to an inclusive ethical framework that accounts for social capital, intersectionality, and context-specific needs. Our view of justice extends beyond humans to all species and across generations. We use contextual participatory approaches to address conflicting objectives, believing planetary and social problems are inseparable.

We leverage the totality of scientific evidence by “connecting the dots” across isolated disciplines. We advocate for true holistic solutions that transcend constructed academic boundaries. By viewing problems through the lens of complex dynamic systems, our advisory and project-specific solutions become truly systemic.

We focus on innovative Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate adaptation and disaster reduction. Any hybrid engineering approach undergoes a systemic planetary impact assessment that includes sociocultural dimensions and physical biocapacity. We treat the Earth as a holobiont—a self-organized, reciprocal system where the prosperity of the planet and humanity are inextricably linked.

We promote critical, non-conformist thinking to change the status quo of global governance. As Albert Einstein noted, we “cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it.” We stress state accountability and act for fundamental change in how problems are understood and how solutions are formulated.
