Three Primary Concepts

I

One Planet, One Life, Shared Resilience

Planetary interconnection & collective well-being

We advocate for the principle of “one planet, one life, shared resilience,” emphasizing the interconnected well-being of all living beings and their collective continuous circular reciprocity — we are all organs of a single body. A thriving humanity, thriving humans, and a thriving planet are inseparable, and our resilience is shared. We are resilient only together, and our resilience is as strong as our collective compassion.

We view the Earth as a “materholobiont” — the mother of all holobionts — and identify the primary challenge as planetary dysbiosis: a state where forms and functions of symbionts no longer allow for the resumption of the mutualistic relationship, jeopardizing the health of both the host (Earth) and all hosted life forms. This has been occurring during the Anthropocene through a complex interplay of ecological overshoot, land-use change, waste, pollution, and biodiversity loss, among others.

We emphasize the role of research in identifying the nexus between biotic reciprocity and defining the well-being of each interacting element. We support the further conceptualization of a self-organizing planet characterized through feedback loops by decentralized and distributed interacting agents that are inherently not human-centric, despite being significantly disrupted by a single species — us.

We believe in the intrinsic unity of all essences, encompassing both biotic and abiotic factors in their states and behaviors that contribute to the collective function of the complex system of the Earth. We propose that the concept of self-regulating planetary homeostasis, although challenging to prove, warrants further investigation to understand the dynamic equilibrium of our planetary system.

II

Social Equity and Justice for All

Foundational transformation through equality

We advocate for social equity and justice as the main frontlines of solutions for resilient and sustainable societies and for foundational transformation in disaster risk management, climate action, and planetary health. Equality in all forms fosters social capital and community resilience. We believe these factors render necessary and sufficient conditions for societal transformation.

Any transition in energy, economy, technology, or infrastructure would not be sustainable and effective unless the mindset that creates inequality is changed. Social equity and justice are also foundational for the concept of One Planet, One Life, Shared Resilience.

III

Ecological Economics as a Transformative Shift

Post-growth, degrowth & regenerative economics

We advocate the notion of Ecological Economics — encompassing post-growth, degrowth, and regenerative economics — with the understanding that there is no single and rapid answer for the complex system of the global economy. We criticize the current state of self-sabotaging culture in the overconsumption of material, information, and energy, as well as producing waste and polluting the earth.

We perceive prioritizing holistic wellbeing in a fair and just planet over GDP as a pathway towards a “true” sustainable coexistence with the planet. Similarly, we believe that prioritizing ecological restoration as well as the preservation and regeneration of natural systems relies chiefly on individual awareness and behavioral shifts.
